Sweden: the days before Chris & Lara's wedding

Old town, Stockholm, SwedenIn high school, my good friend Lara got back from visiting some of her family in Sweden, and when she returned I made her promise that the next time she went to visit them, I could come with. Ten years later she told me that her and her fiancé Chris were planning on having their wedding take place in the little town of Färila, Sweden. Chris is from New Zealand, and Lara's immediate family lives in the US, so really, Sweden was as good of a place as any to choose to have their wedding. After spending just a day and a half in Stockholm, we left the city and started driving north. Eric and I were blown away by how similar the landscape was to Wisconsin; Rolling hills, large farms, and much of the same flora. The little red cottages that we spotted all over the place were decidedly something that you don't see in Wisconsin, and Eric and I were over the moon when our friends Sara & Viktor told us we could stay with them at Sara's family's cottage on a lake on our way up to Färila. We pulled up to the cottage just as the sun was setting, and were able to view a pretty spectacular show over the lake. Sara went for a swim, and for the rest of the evening while sipping whiskey and drinking cottage tea, we took note of how long it took for the light from the setting sun to actually disappear. (it didn't get totally dark until nearly 11pm!) The rest of our time in Sweden was a dream. We helped gather lupine for the wedding, wandered around Lara's family's amazing home, watched the rain fall and fields fill with fog, and were absolutely charmed by the town of Färila.Sweden-8904Sweden-8906Kalf & Hansen cafe in StockholmSweden-8933Sweden-8945Sweden-9001Colorful sunset in SwedenSweden-9003a swim at duskVintage table in Swedish cottageSweden-9030Red cottage in SwedenSweden-9037Foraged chanterelle mushroomsSweden-9049Sweden-9053Sweden-9054Vintage Swedish cottage knick-knacksSweden-9065Sweden-9066day before the wedding in Sweden
